Pacific Women Well into the Future

Conference Workshops
There will be five whole day workshops during the second day (24th March) of the conference. The fee for the workshops is included with the full conference registration. We encourage conference participants to indicate early their preference of workshop. Most workshops have limited numbers and are availability is assigned to those who register their preference early. The workshops are:
- Emergency Obstetric Skills Workshop
This will be co-hosted by Dr Miriam O’Connor of the PSRH Pacific Emergency Medical Obstetric Course (PEMOC) and Dr Tim Draycott, founder of the PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) programme. The objectives of the workshop are to develop skills and confidence in the management of common obstetric emergencies within an awareness of one’s environment and resources. This will suit those who work in birthing units and clinical leaders who would like to develop training skills in obstetric emergencies. Limit in the number of participants is 25 so it is important to indicate EARLY if you want to attend this workshop.
- Ultrasound Scanning Workshop
This will be coordinated by Prof Peter Stone with assistance from Ms Jenny Mitchell and Drs Graham Parry and Bruce Allen. There will be tutorials in the morning followed by hands on scanning in the afternoon. The emphasis will be on practical skills in the diagnosis of common O&G presentations in the Pacific Islands. Limit to 15 participants.
- Family Violence Workshop
This will be facilitated by Dr Faye Clarke and assisted by Dr Dorothy Shaw. Dr Clarke is a NZ Expert on Family Violence and has conducted similar workshops throughout NZ. Then objective of the workshop is to develop skills in interviewing and recognising women in violent relationships and to develop solutions with the aid of support agencies. It is expected that Pacific participants from the Islands and NZ will assist in grounding the Pacific perspective and any Pacific solutions. No limit.
- Audit and Research Methods Workshop
Dr Alec Ekeroma will facilitate with assistance from Dr Bettina Ikenasio-Thorpe and Robert Scragg and Drs Teuila Percival and Vili Nosa of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Auckland. The objectives are to learn audit and research methods, formulating audit projects & research hypotheses, literature searches and writing of proposals, findings & papers. Limit to 20 participants.

Charge midwives and leading obstetricians from each major hospital in the Pacific are encouraged/expected to participate in the PEmOC
